FATHER U-TURN DIES of KIDNEY DISEASE @ 36

One of Nigeria's most popular 90s musicians Olufemi Mayomi, aka Father U Turn, is dead. The dancehall artiste who rose from poverty as an orphan, to build a successful and inspiring career as a songwriter, recording artiste, TV presenter and performer, passed on in Lagos today, following a brief illness. He was 36 years old. The late U Turn was from Kabba-Bunu in Kogi State where he first tried his hands on entertainment, working as a radio and TV presenter. He had a brief stint at NTA in Lagos, after relocating here, before signing a deal with Ultima Records which released his early albums. He was a little boy, with braids and a charming personality. And his signature intro 'Apoola Berekete' was far beyond his stature. But he got the industry's attention and got a leg in the door before long. After years of club tours and free gigs, he got his first break when he was signed to one of the biggest record labels of the time, Ultima Records. Ultima engaged Nelson Brown

His exact cause of death was not immediately revealed, but  the AP said  it was a "liver-related ailment." Earlier this year, he received a life-saving  liver transplant  after experiencing chronic liver failure. Reed was open about his addiction to drugs and alcohol in his music. He'd been sober for decades, but his  past drug use  took a heavy toll on his body. In "Heroin," he wrote: “Heroin, be the death of me/Heroin, it’s my wife and it’s my life.” Reed is best known for his work as guitarist, singer and songwriter for the Velvet Underground, and his solo career. Reed had a profound impact on American culture, introducing avant garde rock and pop art to mainstream music. Brymo vs. Chocolate City, Who Blinks First?

These are definitely not the best of times for Olawale Ashimi popularly known as Brymo.  Chocolate City, his former record label through their law firm, L & A Legal Consultants on Monday, October 21 got an injunction against him, “restraining him from recording, releasing, distributing any composition, song, musical works or carrying out any activity as a recording or performing artist through or for the benefit of any person or organisation other than Chocolate City”, pending the determination of the suit against him. What this means is simple: Brymo cannot function as an artist, unless he and his former employers settle their rift. Apparently Brymo wasn’t happy with the way Choc City was handling his career and felt it was high time he left for greener pastures. One cannot help but wonder if Brymo was in the dark over some aspects of the contract he signed with Chocolate City. Apparently, he remains their artiste till 2016. We just hope this matter
