Why I Love Internet.org,Every one of us. Everywhere. Connected.

It was great to see my Twitter feed light up yesterday with the latest news on the Facebook-led initiative to   improve access to Internet for the developing world . Alongside Qualcomm, Opera, Samsung, and others, Team Zuckerberg is leading the charge on Internet.org, a   “global partnership between technology leaders, nonprofits, local communities and experts who are working together to bring the Internet to the two-thirds of the world’s population that doesn’t have it.”   That’s music to our ears here at Connectify. Our team is passionate about creating apps that get users and their devices online with fast and reliable Internet access no matter where they are. When we launched the first beta of Connectify Hotspot in 2009, we had no idea that our powerful little software router would become a lifeline for so many users around the world. Early on, we were thrilled to hear from business travelers and tech enthusiasts who wrote to tell us that Connectify Hotspot had become an in

HOW DOES MOTO X COMPARE TO IPHONE 5 AND GALAXY S4?

Motorola showed off an entire  line of new Droid  phones last week, but it was nothing but a tease for non- Verizon  customers as that was the only service provider those handsets are available on. A flagship phone has to transcend those network lines to reach as many hands as possible. That job appears like it belongs to Moto X, the newest handset from Motorola that will be available on every major carrier. Does Moto X have enough power to push itself up the ranks and be the signature phone of Motorola? How does it compare to the other handsets at the top of their class? We find out by pitting the Moto X against the  Galaxy S4  and iPhone 5 in a spec showdown.   iPhone 5 Galaxy S4 Moto X  Size 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 (mm) 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 (mm) 129 x 65 x 10.4 (mm) Weight 112g 130g 130g Screen 4.0-inch LCD 5.0-inch Super AMOLED 4.7-inch AMOLED Resolution 1136×640 pixels 1080×1920 pixels 720×1280 pixels OS iOS 6.0.1 Android 4.2 with TouchWiz UI Android 4.2 Storag

How Microsoft blundered with the SkyDrive brand

Microsoft must rename its SkyDrive online storage service after losing a trademark infringement case in a U.K. court. Analysts and legal experts said that Microsoft’s blunder would cost it dearly, and wondered how the American technology giant could have made such a mistake. “It’s unbelievable to me that Microsoft did not see this coming,” said Peter LaMotte, an analyst with Levick, a Washington, D.C.-based strategic communications consultancy. “They should have seen it coming. And this is not the first time that this has happened to them.” LaMotte, who before he joined Levick had helped numerous startups with their branding efforts, was referring to last year, when Microsoft backed away from the “Metro” name to describe the new Windows 8 and Windows RT user interface and the apps that run on those platforms. "It's unbelievable to me that Microsoft did not see this coming. And this is not the first time that this has happened to them." Microsoft dropped

Nokia Expected to Introduce Lumia 1000-Series Superphones.

Nokia Lumia 1000 first and exclusive hands on review 41 mp camera windows 8 - YouTube Although Nokia Lumia 900-series are meant to compete against flagship smartphones from Apple and Samsung, they have fail to become as popular as the iPhones or Galaxy S-series. After failing to offer breakthrough functionality with Lumia 900 family of smartphones, the company readies Lumia 1000-series of dream phones with unique capabilities. Nokia Lumia 900, 920, 925 and 928 have clearly failed to capture attention of the masses, so now Nokia is bringing its main weapon: imaging capabilities. The Nokia Lumia with 41MP sensor and Carl Zeiss optics currently known under Eos code-name will not only carry camera not available on any other smartphone today, but it will also ignite a brand new product series, the Lumia 1020, according to @Evleaks . Nokia Lumia 1020 (aka Eos) will be introduced at Zoom Reinvented event on July 11, 2013. Based on images published by GSMArena and ViziLeaks , Noki

Moto X Release: Google Bets On Voice Control And Customization With New Phone

Moto X is finally here. Google on Thursday unveiled the Moto X, the first smartphone fully designed and built by Motorola since it was bought by Google last year. But thanks to recent leaks , the phone's biggest features didn't come as a surprise: The device can be customized with different colored rear casings and accents, it has a camera that is activated with a flick of the wrist, and like the new Droid lineup announced last week, many of the phone's functions -- including Google search -- can be controlled solely by your voice. At a press event on Thursday, Rick Osterloh, Motorola Mobility's senior vice president of product management, lamented that smartphones today aren't actually very smart. "Phones today require you to manually enter a pin and touch it," Osterloh said. "It should be able to respond to you." Motorola is touting Touchless Control as one of its best features. It allows Moto X owners to set alarms, get directions

15 Reasons We Need Spell Check IRL

Of all the modern luxuries we have today, spell check is one that we value most. Seriously, what would we do without those squiggly red lines underneath our slip-ups and typos? How else would we find out that we incorrectly spelled "spaghetti?" What would tell us that we left out a letter in "accidentally?" For all the beautiful things spell check has done to our word processing experience, it's too bad that function hasn't yet extended to real life. There are plenty of reasons — too many reasons — that it is seriously needed. 1. Because tattoos are permanent. Image courtesy of Imgur, TheDeathlyHallow 2. Because one day this will haunt you on the Internet. Image courtesy of Imgur, fink 3. Because spelling names is really hard. Image courtesy of Imgur, suckitbetch 4. Because sometimes you'll mess up the unexpected word. Image courtesy of Flickr, Sean MacEntee 5. Because you're one letter away from a very c

7 Big Changes Coming in Internet Explorer 11

Microsoft thinks very highly of its homegrown web browser, Internet Explorer . IE has been intertwined with Windows itself for over a decade, and when Microsoft debuted Windows 8 last year, it also released a new version of the browser, Internet Explorer 10 , that was created specifically for the full-screen, touch-first experience that Windows 8 emphasizes. By its nature, IE10 was a big change, but it also had some strange limitations. Web content took up the whole screen unless you right-clicked — only then did you see your tabs or the URL bar. You couldn’t manage Favorites. You could only have 10 tabs open at once. To make the transition bearable, Microsoft kept a version of IE10 in the traditional desktop environment, although the same engine powers both. Video On Instagram: Facebook Adds 15-Second Videos To Photo-Sharing App

Video, meet Instagram. Facebook on Thursday announced that it had added video recording, editing, filtering and sharing capabilities to Instagram, the immensely popular photo sharing service Facebook bought last year for $1 billion. "We need to do to video what we did to photos," said Kevin Systrom, the co-founder and CEO of Instagram. "What we've done is made Instagram better." The app allows Instagram's 130 million monthly active users to record 15-second collages of video clips. Users can delete and re-record clips, and the app features Cinema, a video stabilization tool. Like photos that are shared on the app, videos on Instagram will have 13 custom filters. If any of this sounds familiar, it's because Facebook is taking a page right from Twitter's book. In January, Twitter released Vine , an app that records (and then plays on a loop) 6-second video clips. For Twitter, Vine has been nothing short of a huge succe
