THE Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Pius Ewherido, has died. The one-time deputy speaker of Delta State House of Assembly re reportedly fell down three days ago and collapsed at his Abuja home and had been hospitalised at the National Hospital, Abuja in preparation for treatment in Germany when he suddenly died on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Delta State government has commiserated with his family over the loss. In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, government advised Deltans, particularly members of his Constituency to remain calm. "We pray that God grants his family, constituents and all of us, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss," it added.

Former Nigeria Super Eagles' mid fielder, Thompson Oliha is dead. He died at the age of 44. The midfield who was among the 1994 victorious Super Eagles' squad that won the Nations cup in Tunisia died in the early hours of Sunday, June 30 at the Yusjib industrial medicare hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State. Thompson Oliha was born on October 4 1968 in Benin City and he is a retired Nigerian professional football star who played for clubs in Africa and Europe during an injury shortened career. Until his death, Oliha was the head coach of the Kwara Football Academy (KFA) in Ilorin, Kwara State. He was even in charge of KFA's 3-0 friendly win over a team who came from Mali on Saturday evening at the Academy premises.
