U.S. couple convicted in adopted daughter's death from malnutrition

  A Washington state couple were convicted of manslaughter Monday in the malnutrition-and-hypothermia death of a teenage girl they adopted from Ethiopia. A jury found Larry Williams, of Sedro-Woolley, guilty of first-degree manslaughter, while his wife, Carri Williams, was found guilty of homicide by abuse as well as manslaughter. The jury also convicted them both of assault of a child for abusing a younger boy they adopted from Ethiopia at the same time as the girl. The jury couldn't reach a decision on the homicide by abuse charge for Larry Williams, and the judge declared a mistrial on that count. Larry and Carri Williams face a maximum life sentence, the Skagit Valley Herald reported. Hana Williams died in the backyard of the family's home in May 2011. Prosecutors said she was starved, beaten and forced outside as punishment. Defence lawyers argued that questionable parenting practices don't necessarily amount to a crime. Police Introduce Biometric Vehicle Registration

The Police said the introduction of a new Biometric Central Motor Registration (BCMR) is designed to fight terrorism, Kidnapping and car theft in the country. Police force spokesman CSP Frank Mba made this known at a press briefing in Abuja yesterday. He said the registration take effect from Monday next week and would involve the registration processes of vehicles, tricycles and auto-bikes from the analogue to the new system. He argued that the decision informing the introduction of the new process was against the backdrop of contemporary security challenges bordering on terrorism, high incidence of car theft, carjacking, kidnappings and other crimes. Mba said unlike the analogue procedure, the new method operate on smart-cards and portable hand-held receiver and is a specially developed technological means of attaching automobile owner's unique traits and personal data to their vehicles for proper identification and protection purposes. On Tuesday, Apple will host its first event since its  Worldwide Developers Conference in June.  The company says the event should  "brighten everyone's day. But what exactly will Apple reveal today? Here's some of what the Cupertino tech giant may have up its sleeve. 1. iPhone 5S The rumor mill leading up to tomorrow's event has been  working overtime for the "iPhone 5S."  The expected new iPhone is said to be the same size as the iPhone 5, and might come in gold -- and be made of Liquidmetal, an "indestructible" alloy that's twice as strong as titanium.
