Jay-Z had the most nominations with 9, while fellow rappers Kendrick Lamar & Macklemore and Rya Lewis have 7 apiece. Pharell and former N-Sync singer Justin Timberlake also have 7 nominations. Nigeria is lonely represennted by Femi Kuti, who grabbed a nomination for Best World Album The Recording Academy announced the nominations Friday during a concert at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The 56th Grammy Awards will be held on Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. One of Nigeria's most popular 90s musicians Olufemi Mayomi, aka Father U Turn, is dead. The dancehall artiste who rose from poverty as an orphan, to build a successful and inspiring career as a songwriter, recording artiste, TV presenter and performer, passed on in Lagos today, following a brief illness. He was 36 years old. The late U Turn was from Kabba-Bunu in Kogi State where he first tried his hands on entertainment, working as a radio and TV presenter. He had a brief stint at NTA in Lagos, after relocating here, before signing a deal with Ultima Records which released his early albums. He was a little boy, with braids and a charming personality. And his signature intro 'Apoola Berekete' was far beyond his stature. But he got the industry's attention and got a leg in the door before long. Jim Iyke's career is back on track as he is not only working on a new movie in Ghana, he has also signed a contract for the season 2 and 3 of his reality show, 'Unscripted' with 'The Idea Factory' (IFactory) and 'OHTV'. He will start working on the reality show in November. Legendary musician Lou Reed has died, Rolling Stone reported  on Sunday. He was 71. The Guardian  confirmed the report, citing Reed's agent.  BBC also  confirmed the report. His exact cause of death was not immediately revealed, but  the AP said  it was a "liver-related ailment." Earlier this year, he received a life-saving  liver transplant  after experiencing chronic liver failure. Reed was open about his addiction to drugs and alcohol in his music. He'd been sober for decades, but his  past drug use  took a heavy toll on his body. In "Heroin," he wrote: “Heroin, be the death of me/Heroin, it’s my wife and it’s my life.” Reed is best known for his work as guitarist, singer and songwriter for the Velvet Underground, and his solo career. Reed had a profound impact on American culture, introducing avant garde rock and pop art to mainstream music.
