Delta's serving senator, Ewherido, dies

THE Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Pius Ewherido, has died. The one-time deputy speaker of Delta State House of Assembly re reportedly fell down three days ago and collapsed at his Abuja home and had been hospitalised at the National Hospital, Abuja in preparation for treatment in Germany when he suddenly died on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Delta State government has commiserated with his family over the loss. In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, government advised Deltans, particularly members of his Constituency to remain calm. "We pray that God grants his family, constituents and all of us, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss," it added.

NIBEN: 20 Killed In Edo Cult Clashes, 10 Arrested

The death toll in the Edo State cult clashes has increased to 20. Also, the police in the state said they had arrested 10 persons in connection with the hostilities. Suspected members of Eiye Confraternity and Black Axe have since last Thursday engaged one another in supremacy battle in Benin, the state capital. Trouble, it was gathered, started last Thursday, when suspected members of the Eiye group went to the home of a member of the Black Axe to resolve issues bordering on money. It was learnt that while discussions were ongoing, the Black Axe member allegedly brought a Pump Action gun, and shot one of the visitors on the leg. Following this, friends of the victim later mobilised and went on a reprisal, visiting homes of suspected Black Axe members and attacking them. UK murder: Adebowale leaves hospital, now in custody

One of the two main suspects in the brutal murder of a British soldier by Islamic extremists near his London barracks was discharged from hospital and taken into police custody on Tuesday. Michael Adebowale, 22, faces questioning over the soldier’s murder as well as the attempted murder of a police officer, the Metropolitan Police said. Adebowale and his fellow suspect in the killing of soldier Lee Rigby, Michael Adebolajo, 28, were shot and injured by police at the scene near the barracks in Woolwich on Wednesday. They have been under police guard in hospital. Both men are believed to be known to the security services. Adebowale and Adebolajo are Muslim converts from Nigerian Christian families.
