BBM coming to Android and iOS as early as this week, no more excuse

An earlier report on Twitter from Samsung Nigeria confirmed that BlackBerry’s popular BBM messaging platform will be coming to Android and iOS quite soon. Although it won’t be a three-month exclusive to Samsung as was initially speculated, BBM could hit Google Play and the iOS App Store as early as this Friday. BBM Communications Director Victoria Berry had this to say on the impending launch: “The excitement around the upcoming BBM launch on iPhone and Android devices seems to know no bounds. Although I’m a big fan of this passion, I want to clarify that no one will have an exclusive on offering BBM. We’ll be bringing the app to Android and iPhone users across the globe soon.” BBM has long been a staple of BlackBerry’s messaging platform, allowing BlackBerry users to communicate between one another for free, but has until now been limited to BlackBerry devices. The latest incorporation of other mobile OS’s i

Andriod Change a good for Nokia instead of Microsoft

S martphone manufacturer Nokia recently sold its devices and services unit to Microsoft for $7.2 billion. Before that deal, though, it seems like the Finnish company may have thought of crossing the fence to Google’s Android operating system sometime after late 2014, according to the New York Times . While Microsoft and Nokia have had a long, well-knit bond over the Windows Phone-based Lumia series, new evidence now shows that a Nokia Lumia Android phone was being considered, and prototypes were also reportedly made by the company. Nokia supposedly had a team working on bringing Android to its Lumia handsets well before the Microsoft deal took place. The source has stated that Microsoft executives were also aware about the existence of this project. Nokia’s plan to shift operating systems is not such a surprising one. Most smartphone companies often have alternatives in mind in case they need to shift the operating system or iron out better deals with software

Huawei Ascend P6 review to storm NIGERIAN market

Huawei’s latest is being flaunted as the slimmest smartphone ever! We find out if there’s anything else that the handset can brag about. For a company that had nothing to do with smartphones till three years ago, Huawei has built itself quite an arsenal of products by now. While most of its earlier models were budget phones that were barely acknowledged by gadget enthusiasts, the more recent line-up of its mid-to higher-end smartphones have been getting a fair bit of attention. The latest to fit the bill is the Huawei Ascend P6, marketed by the company as the slimmest smartphone ever! We picked it up to see what else it can possibly boast of! FIRST IMPRESSIONS Right out of the box, the Huawei Ascend P6 greeted us in Chinese. For some strange reason (which is explained later), Chinese was the default language, so we had to fiddle with it before we could get it to swap to English. The obvious launch pad – the homescreen of the smartphone sports the customisable ME widget. He

ASUS launching the new PadFone Infinity on September 17

1 in Share The ASUS PadFone has been a very interesting concept that unfortunately has never made it stateside. It’s a smartphone just like any other Android smartphone. But once slid into the back of its tablet housing, it becomes a full fledged tablet, complete with the large 10-inch user interface and all of your apps molded to fit. ASUS has a new PadFone in the works. Literally, it’s called “the new PadFone Infinity.” Not very creative, but it’ll do. The device will have an upgraded Snapdragon 800 processor, along with the addition of a microSD slot and a white model to the lineup. It’s not a huge upgrade for those who already own the previous device, but it’s still a nice product refresh for those who were willing to buy it soon. The new PadFone Infinity will be launching on September 17 in Taipei, and the event will be hosted by ASUS CEO Jerry Shen. They have also posted a promotional video taking the “launch” literally, w

How the Samsung Galaxy S4 tempted me from the iPhone

The Samsung S4 and the iPhone 5 I'm fortunate to have several smartphones to choose from. For work reasons, I need to keep up with the Android, iOS, and Windows Phone platforms, as well as specific devices from particular makers. Usually, I take two with me when going out. But on the rare occasions that I take only one, it's the iPhone that's must-have. Must-have, that is, until the Samsung Galaxy S4 came along. I didn't expect to like the Galaxy S4, when the review unit from Samsung arrived a few weeks ago. I never took to the Galaxy S3 when I tried it last year. Believe me, I tried. Plenty of others seemed to love it. But the predictive text always seemed to suggest the wrong things, plus I found the unit was pretty hard to see in bright sunlight. These and other factors never pulled me to the phone, or away from the  iPhone 4S  or the  Galaxy Nexus  that I was regularly using then. It's been much different with the Galaxy S4. I love it. Below are some

BBM for Android and Iphone How Soon ?

If you’re an Android or iOS device owner and have been waiting for the BlackBerry Messenger app to arrive, then you will know that it has seemed a long wait. BlackBerry originally stated that the apps would be available in the summer, so they should be arriving very soon. Now it appears that the release of BBM for Android is uncertain, but for the iPhone it could be imminent. BlackBerry’s recent woes have been well documented and the company really needs to release these apps as soon as possible. Although many are expecting the Android and iOS apps for Android to release simultaneously, this may not be the case. There have been many occasions where Android users have been left waiting for a popular app for some time after the iOS version has become available, and this can cause a certain amount of frustration. Android apps can sometimes be delayed as developers have to take into account the various versions of the operating system that are currently being used. However, we rece

Another Fake BlackBerry Messenger App Shows Up In Play Store

Another Fake BlackBerry Messenger App Shows Up In Play Store One of the key strengths of any BlackBerry device is its BBM service. This allows anyone to easily share messages and other content to other BlackBerry users. Previous reports say that BlackBerry Messenger will soon be arriving for the Android platform which has excited a lot of people. As of now though there is still no official BBM app at the Play Store coming from BlackBerry. Some individuals are taking advantage of the anticipated release of BBM for Android by releasing what is supposedly a BBM app. A few months back there was a fake BBM app that tricked quite a number of people. Today, a new app has surfaced called BBM App created by BBM Droid which is obviously a fake as well. From its description alone it states that “THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL BBM APP”. What it does is that once someone installs this app it proceeds to download another app which needs to be installed. We are not sure what the downloaded file conta

Google Maps Becomes the Most Used Mobile App on Earth

Business Week Remember a little thing called Apple Maps, Apple's so-called 'Google Maps-killer'? Yeah, turns out a lot of other people don't either. Google Maps is not just king of the map apps, but of all apps: according to new data from GlobalWebIndex , Google Maps beats out Facebook, YouTube, Google+, Twitter, Skype and Instagram as the most frequently used app for the second quarter of 2013. Facebook currently brings in 44 percent of users, YouTube at 35 percent, and Google+ with 30 percent of smartphone users. Apple Maps didn't even crack the top 10 (to be fair, it's not available for Android users), but you can expect someone over at Apple being pretty ticked off at the news that Google Maps is doing so well. Get Google Maps for iOS here , and Android users here . Chances are you already have it.

BBM officially heading to Samsung Galaxy phones

BlackBerry's venerable messaging platform to hit Samsung's devices. Would a cross-platform version of BlackBerry Messenger benefit RIM? (Credit: BlackBerry.com) It seems like it was ages ago when BlackBerry dropped the news that BBM would find a home on Android handsets. Apparently the wait is about to end, at least for owners of Samsung Galaxy phones. A new report from the folks at N4BB claims that Samsung has officially committed to the messaging app. Specifically, BBM addicts will be able to download BlackBerry Messenger software via the Google Play store "soon." With BBM, Galaxy users will have access to their BBM accounts, including BBM chats and BBM Groups. It also appears that BBM functionality will be integrated in Samsung devices through a Samsung messaging hub. Whether this means Sammy customers will be treated to a UI similar to the BlackBerry Hub, basically a unified inbox on steroids, remains to be seen. Frankly it's one the best feature
