Brymo vs. Chocolate City, Who Blinks First?

These are definitely not the best of times for Olawale Ashimi popularly known as Brymo.  Chocolate City, his former record label through their law firm, L & A Legal Consultants on Monday, October 21 got an injunction against him, “restraining him from recording, releasing, distributing any composition, song, musical works or carrying out any activity as a recording or performing artist through or for the benefit of any person or organisation other than Chocolate City”, pending the determination of the suit against him. What this means is simple: Brymo cannot function as an artist, unless he and his former employers settle their rift. Apparently Brymo wasn’t happy with the way Choc City was handling his career and felt it was high time he left for greener pastures. One cannot help but wonder if Brymo was in the dark over some aspects of the contract he signed with Chocolate City. Apparently, he remains their artiste till 2016. We just hope this matter

Mandela’s 95th birthday plans go ahead despite illness

Nelson Mandela’s foundation has vowed to press ahead with upcoming 95th birthday celebrations, as the global peace icon underwent a twelfth day in hospital Wednesday for a recurring lung infection. On the frail icon’s July 18 birthday, various charity organisations and businesses will paint schools, hand out food parcels and books, and run a 67 kilometre (41 miles) relay marathon in the spirit of Mandela’s 67 years of activism and public work. Mandela spent 27 years in jail for his opposition to white minority rule, and walked free to become the country’s first black president after all-race elections in 1994. “We see this as an opportunity for people to rise above Madiba’s hospitalisation,” said Sello Hatang, the foundation’s CEO, referring to Mandela by his clan name. The Nobel peace laureate, who devoted his life to promote education and AIDS activism, wanted people to carry on his good work, his great-grandson Mbuso Mandela told AFP. “His idea for me was just to continue the

Bruno Mars' mother dead at 55, according to an AP source.

The mother of Grammy-winning pop star Bruno Mars has died in Hawaii. Bernadette Hernandez died Saturday of a brain aneurysm, according to a publicist for Mars' label, Atlantic Records, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak on the record. Hernandez was 55 years old. She died in Honolulu at Queens Medical Center; no other information was given. Mars is one of pop's top acts with several No. 1 hits including his most recent, "When I Was Your Man." His mother, a hula dancer and a singer who immigrated from the Philippines, nurtured her son's interest in music at an early age.
