R-E-V-E-A-L-E-D: Ezu River victims murdered, says autopsy

BY Emeka Mamah Snippets from the autopsy report on the 25 corpses dumped inside Ezu River in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, indicate that the deceased were extra-judicially murdered. Vanguard gathered from sources in Lagos last night that the pathologists, who carried out the autopsy, discovered some bullet wounds, bruises and other signs that the suspects did not die of natural causes. The sources said although the results of the autopsy were scanty, it would be correct to assume that those whose corpses were thrown into the river had been in detention or custody. Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Lawrence Ikeakor, had said that government made “startling discoveries” from the corpses of three of the victims, whose bodies were initially exhumed, prompting it to order further investigations on the remaining bodies. Tongues were wagging last night that some of those killed were suspected kidnap or armed robbery suspects in the custody

Lionel Messi's 'magisterial lesson' lights up Barcelona win over Milan

•  Argentinian scores twice in 4-0 second-leg victory • Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova to return in two weeks • All the best pictures from Camp Nou Lionel Messi  delivered a "magisterial" display to inspire  Barcelona  to a 4-0 win over  Milan  and complete a remarkable comeback that took his side into the quarter-finals of the  Champions League . The Argentinian forward capped a breathtaking display with two goals as Barça overturned a 2-0 first-leg deficit to clinch a place in the last eight. Yet for all their dominance, the assistant coach Jordi Roura dismissed suggestions that his team are favourites to win the competition. He also indicated that  Tito Vilanova , off work  recovering from cancer of the saliva gland , may return to his job soon, after Charly Rexach, who is adviser to the club's president, had revealed that he expected the first-team coach to be back in Barcelona on 25 March. Roura praised his players for their intensity and admitted that

Hostages may still be alive –Minister

The Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, has said that the reported killing of seven kidnapped  foreign construction workers by a militant Islamic group, Jama’atu Ansarul Musilimina Fi Biladis Sudan, remains unconfirmed. “As long as it (killing) remains unconfirmed, efforts will be made to ensure their rescue and security,”  Moro told the Hausa service of the  British Broadcasting Corporation  on Monday. “I want us to also think that belief is quite different from confirmation. And maybe the affected countries believe that was what happened, but on its part, the country where it is said to have happened, based on what it sees, is doing the best it can in ensuring the men are freed, who it hopes are alive.” But  his  belief  and comments by his Information counterpart , Labaran Maku,  as well as   security agencies  showed that there was confusion  in  government circle over the fate of the kidnapped foreigners. GRANDMA HIDES COCAINE UNDER HER WEAVING

A 53-year-old grandmother, Sikirat Giwa, has been arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja while trying to smuggle out cocaine under her hair weave. Giwa was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Saturday with 1kg of white powdery, which later tested positive to cocaine. The suspect was apprehended while trying to board an Ethiopian airline Flight ET 910 to Pakistan enroute Addis Ababa and Dubai. NDLEA Abuja Airport commander, Mr. Hamisu Lawan said that the suspect was arrested during routine check. He said, “There was no prior information on Sikirat as the drug was detected when a female officer carried out a body frisk on her during outward screening of passengers. “We also arrested one 59-year-old suspected accomplice, Joseph Umunna, who brought Sikirat to the airport.” It was learnt that the cocaine was sewn to Giwa’s hair before an artificial hair weave was then sewn on as a covering. FC Barcelona needs to Produce a Magical Night against Inter Milan

So, the stage is set of this all conquering FC Barcelonaside to overcome one of the biggest challenges in last two years. After losing the first leg away 3-1 at San Siro, FC Barcelona have to do it all at Nou Camp now. A failure to do that will see the dream of retaining the Champions league crown at our rivals home ending. Many have pointed out that we need a miracle to go through to the final, but for me that is more of an exaggeration. What we really need is a solid, compact and a determined performance and we could be heading to Bernabeu. The last time Inter Milan visited Camp Nou we ended up winning the match comfortably - FC Barcelona - 2, Inter -0 . A repeat of the same performance will see us comfortably through to the final and that is the reason why I emphasized on a good compact performance rather than a miracle. No way this is going to be easy, but this FC Barcelona side has the talent to achieve that result even with the absence of Iniesta.  The last two Champions Lea

EU fines Microsoft $731 million for broken promise, warns others The European Union fined Microsoft Corp 561 million euros ($731 million) on Wednesday for failing to offer users a choice of web browser, an unprecedented sanction that will act as a warning to other firms involved in EU antitrust disputes. It said the U.S. software company had broken a legally binding commitment made in 2009 to ensure that consumers had a choice of how they access the internet, rather than defaulting to Microsoft’s Explorer browser. An investigation found that Microsoft had failed to honor that obligation in software issued between May 2011 and July 2012, meaning 15 million users were not given a choice. It is the first time the European Commission, the EU’s anti-trust authority, has handed down a fine to a company for failing to meet its obligations. While the sanction is sizeable, representing 1 percent of Microsoft’s 2012 fiscal-year revenues, the Commission could have charged the compan

Yahoo To Shut Down Seven Products, Including Blackberry App

Yahoo Inc is shutting down seven products, including its mobile app for Blackberry smartphones, as new Chief Executive Marissa Mayer takes a page from Google Inc’s Playbook by eliminating unsuccessful products en masse. The product shutdowns, which Yahoo announced on its official company blog on Friday, are part of what the company said are regular efforts to evaluate and review its product lineup. “The most critical question we ask is whether the experience is truly a daily habit that still resonates for all of you today,” wrote Jay Rossiter, Yahoo’s executive vice president of Platforms. The announcement represents Yahoo’s second group shutdown of products since Mayer, a former Google executive, became CEO of the struggling Web portal in July. So-called “spring cleaning” announcements, in which multiple products are shut down, have become a regular feature at Google in recent years. Mayer signaled the company would prune its line-up of mobile apps at an investor conferenc
