Amaechi threatens to expose Abuja-based politicians

Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has threatened to expose some Abuja-based politicians from the state owing to the crisis currently rocking the Peoples Democratic Party in the state. Amaechi, who said he was no more running for any political position, added that the people of the state would lose their respect for his critics by the time he opened up on their past deeds. Amaechi, who spoke when the Archbishop of the Niger Delta Diocese, Anglican Communion, Archbishop Ignatius Kattey, paid him a courtesy visit in Port Harcourt on Wednesday lamented that nobody realised the efforts put in place by his administration to ensure that peace reigned in the state. Bloodbath in Borno as 22 policemen,14 prison officials, others killed

Boko Haram militants, yesterday, launched series of coordinated attacks on Police, Army and Prison formations in Bama town, Borno State, leaving no fewer than 55 persons dead. Arrest Dokubo, Kuku, Gov Aliyu, Arewa youths, others tell Police

The House of Representatives, Arewa Youths and Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State were among other Nigerians, who Tuesday, urged the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Abubakar, to investigate the Presidential Adviser on Niger-Delta Amnesty Programme, Kingsley Kuku, as well as the former leader of Niger Delta Volunteer Force, NDVF, Alhaji Mujaheed Asari-Dokubo, over alleged “inciting statements” capable of causing disaffection in the country. Both Kuku and Dokubo were alleged to have threatened that there would be upheavals in the country, if President Goodluck Jonathan was not voted into office in 2015 to complete the amnesty programme for the Niger Delta militants. In Minna, capital of Niger State, Governor Babangida Aliyu, also urged security agencies to arrest the NDVF leader, Dokubo over what he described as his alleged treasonable offence against the nation. Bricklayer slaughters girlfriend for ending relationship

A 25-year-old bricklayer, Akinloye Anuoluwapo, has been arrested by the police for slaughtering his 21-year-old girlfriend, Rafiyat Akinyemi. Anuoluwapo slit Akinyemi’s throat at her family home in Magbon, Ogijo, Ogun state. PUNCH Metro gathered that Anuoluwapo allegedly murdered Akinyemi for her refusal to continue dating him. An OND graduate of the Lagos State Polythenic Ikorodu, Akinyemi was said to be home alone last Wednesday, when Anuoluwapo came calling. PUNCH Metro gathered that the embattled lovers, who had dated for over a year, split up late 2012 despite attempts by Anuoluwapo to prevent it. It was learnt that Anuoluwapo knew that Akinyemi’s mother and siblings usually left the house before 8am each working day,. Pre-registered SIMs: NCC fines GSM firms N53.8m

The Nigerian Communications Commission on Wednesday announced the imposition of N53.8m fines on four mobile telecommunication operators for contravening the rules on registration of Subscriber Identification Module cards in the country. A statement issued in Abuja by Head of Media and Public Relations, NCC, Mr. Reuben Muoka, said 269 pre-registered SIM cards were either purchased or reported to it and confirmed by the operators. Muoka said, “In furtherance of the ongoing enforcement of the provisions of the Telephone Subscribers Registration Regulations, 2011, the NCC has imposed fines on four mobile services operators for contravening the provisions on pre-registration of SIM cards in Nigeria.

US-based couple fail DNA test for twins at Embassy

Police Declare 24 Hour Curfew In Wukari Town

A 24-hour curfew has been placed on Wukari town in Taraba state after a communal clash left 39 people dead, 30 injured and about 30 houses burnt. The Taraba state police public relations officer, Mr Joseph Kwaji, who disclosed this, stated that the injured persons are now receiving treatment in various hospitals in the town, while 30 persons had been arrested in connection with the crisis. Mr kwaji explained that the situation has been brought under control and the town is now relatively calm as more security officers have been deployed to the area. Crisis broke out in Wukari on Friday during a funeral procession for a third class chief of the Jukun Traditional Council. The violence reportedly started when the mourners passed through a section of the town, chanting slogans which allegedly angered the residents of the area. Former Nigerian Petroleum Minister Shettima Ali Monguno was abducted by gunmen outside a mosque in the northeastern city of Maiduguri, a military official said.
