Nigeria’s commercial capital, LAGOS, is on the verge of joining the country’s oil-producing states with the discovery of crude oil in commercial quantities in the coastal state. Yesterday, Afren Plc and its partner, Lekoil Limited, announced significant oil discovery offshore Dahomey Basin in Lagos, according to the London Stock Exchange. In separate announcements, the partners said they discovered a significant light oil accumulation based on the results of drilling and wire line logs from a high impact Ogo-1 well, located on the Oil Prospecting Licence, OPL 310 offshore Nigeria. Afren is optimistic that the discovery is likely to be significantly higher than the anticipated 78 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe), which encourages search to further high potential zones. Justin Bieber has been sued by a paparazzo who claims the singer kicked and punched him last year at a Southern California shopping center. A lawsuit filed Wednesday alleges the "Baby" crooner attacked Jose Osmin Hernandez Duran after Bieber and his then-girlfriend went to the movies at The Commons in Calabasas. Bieber's representatives did not respond to a request for comment. Duran claims Bieber started to leave the shopping center in his Mercedes, but got out of his car and sprinted toward him. Duran says Bieber jumped into the air from 6 to 8 feet away to deliver a martial-arts-type kick to the photographer's gut before punching him in the face. The suit seeks unspecified damages for "severe and extreme emotional distress" and negligence.

An Ikeja High Court on Tuesday issued a bench warrant on two oil marketers, Oluwaseun Ogunbambo and Habila Theck, for failing to attend their trial without cogent reasons. The warrant was issued by Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo on the marketers who are standing trial for an alleged N979.6 million fuel subsidy fraud. The  judge also revoked the bail earlier granted to the first accused (Ogunbambo). Ogunbambo and Theck were charged alongside their firm — Fargo Energy Ltd. — by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). They were arraigned on a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretences, forgery and use of forged documents. At Tuesday’s proceedings, the duo failed to appear in court, prompting the EFCC counsel, Mr Francis Usani, to ask the court to issue warrants on them. Usani said there was no medical report to back Ogunbambo’s claim that his absence was as a result of ill-health. He said the absence had stalled the hearing of the ap
