Three ways BlackBerry went wrong

BlackBerry Ltd.  appears to have finally found a savior , and if all the details are worked out, the company will go private in a deal led by its largest sharehlder, Fairfax Financial, valued at $4.7 billion, or $9 a share, sometime in November. Though a nice upside for a stock that got pummeled by  last week’s whopper of an earnings warning , it’s a huge comedown from BlackBerry’s  BBRY   +0.23%   former status as the pioneering smartphone maker that was revered for its secure network and high-quality handsets. The deal price is also less than one-quarter of the market value that the company commanded just three years ago. Welcome to Zola's place! Familiar face set to greet Chelsea supporters in Swindon boozer ahead of Capital One Cup clash

The thousands of Chelsea fans travelling to Swindon for Tuesday's Capital One Cup tie might be pleased to hear Gianfranco Zola is waiting for them.   Well, a mural of the iconic Italian at least.   His diminutive frame adorns the doors to a supporters club set up in this part of Wiltshire seven years ago for a group of west London expats and will, on the day of the match, host a knees up the scale of which has not been seen before.   Blues brothers: Pub landlord John Honeyman and 'Zola' prepare to welcome Chelsea fans to Swindon It is the first time since the Swindon branch was formed nearly two decades ago that Chelsea have been in town and landlord John Honeyman, 51, is expecting a bumper crowd.   'I think around 3,000 tickets have been sold for the Chelsea end and I would hope most of them come here first,' he told MailOnline Sport. 'It will be a good drink and sing song.'  In an annex of the Swiss Chalet pub is Zola's Bar, which houses a couple of s...

iPhone Sales Hit (Dubious) Record, Here's What Apple Isn't Saying

If  the long lines on Friday  weren't a good enough indication, Apple wants doubters to know the new iPhone is a roaring success. Early Monday morning,  the company announced  that it had sold 9 million models of the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C during the first three days of sales -- calling it a new record high for an iPhone debut. But that's not the whole story. Apple has turned boasting about record-breaking sales into a tradition: Three days after it debuts a new iPhone, Apple puts out a happy press release. In 2012, the company said iPhone 5 sales  topped 5 million . The year before, Apple sold  more than 4 million  iPhone 4S handsets during its first weekend, and the year before that, it sold only  1.7 million models  of the iPhone 4. So with more than 9 million new iPhones sold this year, the iPhone 5S and 5C certainly are record breakers for Apple again -- a nice fact that they can trumpet to weary...

Ever since i rooted my HTC DESIRE HD device i have not been able to use the Internet pass through which comes with the android 2.3 which is not on the android 4.3 or don't know how to get there because the new jelly bean really has so much you cant even think of, so i had to find a way to share the Internet on my laptop to my device and i found this working perfectly. People often “tether” their computers to their smartphones, sending their computer’s network traffic over the device’s cellular data connection. “Reverse tethering” is the opposite – tethering your Android smartphone or tablet to your PC to use your PC’s Internet connection. This method requires a  rooted Android  and a Windows PC, but it’s very easy to use. If your computer has Wi-Fi, it may be easier to create a Wi-Fi hotspot using a utility like  Connectify instead. Prerequisites Before using this utility, you’ll have to enable USB debugging on your Android phone or tablet – open the Settin...

(Photo: Robert Deutsch USA TODAY)  BlackBerry says its BlackBerry Messenger app for iPhone and Android will not relaunch this week. On Saturday, the company paused the rollout of the iPhone and Android apps for its popular BBM mobile social messaging service after an unreleased version of the Android app was posted online. That version saw 1.1 million active users in the first 8 hours, the company said, but the unofficial version caused issues, which the company continues to address. DEAL:  BlackBerry unveils deal with Fairfax investor group The unreleased, older version was posted on numerous file sharing sites, the company said Monday. That resulted in data traffic issues that affected the system in abnormal ways, according to a blog post by Andrew Bocking, head of BBM at BlackBerry. RIM WHERE IS IT

who actually is to blame for the roll out failure well on google play i noticed there has been a reduction of fake BBM apps to one which is claimed to be the official one updated today but on the left hand side the reviews left for the apps is not worth it so i say again RIM where is the official BBM app we've been waiting for. Although it's been a long day for those waiting for cross-platform  BBM  and those in Waterloo working to make it all happen, there was some pretty interesting news in  the status update from BlackBerry . In case you missed it, they actually added 1.1 Million users to the BBM platform without even launching the app officially.  I'm not trying to sugarcoat it,  the rollout has been a frustration and not the best experience  but again, 1.1 Million users in less than 8 hours. I guess that answers the question about whether or not people are willing to give cross-platform BBM a go. Now all that needs to happen is getting it offi...

Shylock Trojan targets 24 banks

Two-dozen US and European banks have been targeted by the Shylock Trojan. Shylock avoids detection as it injects itself into legitimate processes. Twenty-four banks across Europe and the US have recently been targeted by Shylock – aka Capshaw – financial   malware  that has actively been going after bank accounts since 2011. The countries with the highest number of infections are the UK, Italy, Denmark and Turkey. Sachin Deodhar and Chris Mannon, researchers from Zscaler's ThreatLabZ, have  reported  this upswing in activity, but say they are currently unable to identify the initial infection vector. "We can tell that it is more than likely arriving as part of an exploit kit honing in on  vulnerable  versions of Java. The reason we suspect this is that the user-agent for every single transaction that has come through our Behavioral Analysis solution has been: Mozilla/4.0 (Windows XP 5.1) Java/1.6.0_07." Shylock avoids detection as it inject...

ROBERT GULPEN ENGINEERING The world's most expensive model car is expected to fetch a minimum of $7.5 million when it goes to auction later this month. For about $400,000, you could park a brand new Lamborghini Aventador in your garage or driveway. Or if you want to spend an extra $7 million, you could park this model of one in your den. RELATED: COULD THIS BE THE LAMBORGHINI GALLARDO’S SWANSONG? Built by Robert Gülpen Engineering, the model was recently presented at the Frankfurt Auto Show. According to the company’s website, Lamborghini was an easy choice because the automaker’s cars are “exclusive, sensual and challenging, and unmistakably Italian.” ROBERT GULPE...
