SSS has arrested some members of a gang who specialize in the making of fake currencies in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The state Director, Mike Fubara who paraded one of them said the suspects were arrested after it was observed that fake currencies have been in circulation in the state.
According to him, one of the gang members, Ugbeda Samuel Aba was the first to be arrested after depositing N40, 000 fake notes into an account in one of the new generation banks.
Fubara further explained that the arrest of Ugbeda was used to lure other members of the gang which led to the arrest of another and one of their conveyors, Dada Gbenga, a graduate of Geology from the University of Ado Ekiti,(UNAD).
Speaking with journalists, Dada who said that he was only used to convey money to their members across the country said one Iya Ibeji" was the one who asked him to give the fake N400, 000 of N1000 notes and $200 fake dollars to Abdul for onward transfer to Maiduguri. Unknown to Dada, the 31 year old from Isaba, Ekiti state was already in the custody of the DSS and was only used to lure him to the state.
He followed the directive of Abdul to Lokoja which led to his apprehension. Dada, a 2007 Geology graduate who lamented that he met the woman whom he only knows till date as Iya Ibeji while he was still doing cab service in Suleja said that although he knew they deal in fake currencies , he had to join them to survive .
The SSS State Director who disclosed that the fake naira and dollar notes were very similar to the normal currencies aside the fact that all the N400, 000 and dollars bear the same serial number said those arrested would be prosecuted immediately.
