LASU STUDENTS SCARED OFF REVENGE

Students of the Lagos State University, Ojo, on Friday expressed fears over likely revenge attacks, following the killing of hip-hop musician, Damilola Olaniyan aka Damino Damoche.
This is just as the Lagos State Police Command said it had not made any arrests over Thursday’s killing of the upcoming artiste by two gunmen a few metres from one of the school’s gates.
Some of the students, who did not want to be named, told one of our correspondents at the school campus on Friday that they feared that trouble might be coming.
Some of the students alleged that Damoche was a member of a campus cult and may have been killed by members of a rival gang.
There was an unusual calm in the school campus on Friday as Saturday PUNCH gathered that students stayed away from the institution.
A female student said many of her colleagues fled the campus with their bags after Jumat prayers on Friday.
She said, “Damoche was a 400-Level student of Business Administration. He was waiting for a bus at the bus stop near the rear gate on LASU-Iba Road after a football match when he was shot by some boys on a motorcycle. I think he died immediately.
“The school marshals took him to the school’s clinic, but by then he was dead. I saw them carrying him. His body was lifeless.”
“The school is calm now but I am sure something is still going to happen. We are all being careful at this moment.”
Another student said that the artiste was shot after a football match.
He said, “A lot of people here are saying he was a member of the Buccaneer Confraternity. Two rival cults – Eiye and Black Axe – had a confrontation sometime ago.
“They later reached a truce and tackled the Black Axe together. They allegedly killed a Black Axe member sometime ago. So, Damoche’s murder may have been in retaliation for that killing.
“He was shot around 4pm. By 6pm, people were advised to steer clear of LASU-Iba Road,” he said.
The student also said he was sure that things would still heat up in the school.
“The campus is calm now because of school marshals but people did not go for lectures because of what happened. Students are scared that there may be revenge attacks,” he added.
Meanwhile, Damoche’s friends have been paying tributes to him on social media.
On his Facebook page, one of his friends, Adewunmi Adson, wrote, “What could you have done to the cultists that all they could think of was repay you with this painful death? But you didn’t deserve this, brother. RIP.”
Another friend, Yetunde Olasupo, wrote, “Dammy’, so I won’t see you again? Remember what you promised Alhaja. What do you want me to tell her?
“You did not tell me on Thursday that you won’t come home again. Now you are gone.”
When contacted on Friday, LASU’s spokesperson, Dr. Sola Fosudo, described the incident as “a civil case.”
Fosudo said, “What do you mean by how we are reacting to the incident? Where did you hear that he was shot by cultists? Don’t ever work on rumours in your life.
“I said it is a civil case. He was shot outside the school premises. The police will handle the matter.
“How do you expect us to tighten security? Does the school have a police post? The police will handle the matter.”
Spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, told our correspondent that Damoche’s  remains had been deposited at the Badagry General Hospital morgue.
“The police have already started investigating the case. No arrests have been made,” she said.
A native of Ogun State, he began his musical career with a defunct group known as the Middle Guys before going solo.
Before his death, he had recorded two songs ‘Obo to she’ and ‘Fall in the song’, which did well in the market.
He was said to be planning some collaborations with a number of popular artistes before he was murdered.

Microsoft Is About To Leave One-Third Of All Computers Vulnerable To Hacking

Hundreds of millions of computers running everything from ATMs to the power grid will be vulnerable to hacking next month when Microsoft stops supporting its old Windows XP operating system. Hackers have been holding onto flaws in Windows XP and waiting to exploit them until after the software giant stops issuing security updates on April 8, experts say. Adam Meyers, vice president of intelligence at Crowdstrike, a cybersecurity firm, said it was “fairly dangerous” to continue using the 12-year-old operating system because after the deadline “victims can’t defend themselves.” “I certainly wouldn't run Windows XP after the 8th," Meyers said in an interview. Microsoft announced six years ago it will no longer provide security patches or technical support for the out-of-date software. Yet about  one-third of computers  around the world -- or about 500 million PCs -- still run Windows XP. On Microsoft’s website , a clock ticks down to next month’s Windows deadline an...
