Jeanne Cooper Dead: 'Young And The Restless' Star Dies At 84

Jeanne Cooper Dead

Jeanne Cooper, who played Katherine Chancellor on the daytime soap opera "The Young and the Restless," has died, TVLine reports. She was 84.

Cooper's son, actor Corbin Bernsen, confirmed the sad news on Twitter today (May 8), writing:

Cooper was hospitalized last month with an undisclosed ailment and was said to be in critical condition.

Bernsen also took to his Facebook page to announce the news of his mother's death, sharing, "My mother passed away this morning just a short time ago, peaceful with my sister by her side, in her sleep. I was going to visit this afternoon, thought I had time. Reminder to self - time is a precious thing. I too am at peace however. I said my goodbyes several times over during the last few weeks. I'll go one last time now for a gentle kiss a final farewell for this lifetime."

"She has been a blaze her entire life, that beacon, that boxer I spoke of earlier. She went the full twelve rounds and by unanimous decision... won!" he continued. "And while her light finally gave into the wind that gives flight to all our journeys, there will always be a glimmer left behind by what she stood for."

Cooper began her acting career in the 1950s, starring in the 1953 western film "The Redhead from Wyoming." She was also a fixture in the television world, appearing on shows like "Crossroads," "Tales of Wells Fargo" "The Adventures of Kit Carson" and "Cheyenne."

She nabbed 10 Daytime Emmy nominations over the course of her long-spanning career, winning once for "The Young and the Restless" in 2008 after earning a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. She was also honored with two Primetime Emmy nods for "Ben Casey" and "L.A. Law."

Cooper is survived by her three children, Corbin, Colin and Caren, with her ex-husband, television producer Harry Bernsen, Jr.

Samsung reportedly close to releasing Glass competitor — and Google’s involved

This one is definitely a rumor, but its source is reliable enough to warrant a little speculation. Analyst and blogger  Eldar Murtazin  tweeted a rather definite message this week that Samsung is “developing [its] own version of Google Glass. We will see it (probably) around April – May under Gear Glass brand.” Given that Google’s own version of Glass is not expected to hit the mass market until early 2014, Samsung’s Glass competitor could very well race Google’s to market. That might seem like a nightmare for Google, which has invested heavily in Glass and is no doubt planning for a strong event launch, but as was pointed out in a CNet article, the use of the word “Glass” implies an official partnership. Samsung is known for its aggressive branding and Google would likely raise legal concerns regardless, so it’s unlikely the brand Gear Glass would be used without a partnership. Does Google even want to sell Glass, or does it just want you wearing face-screens? ...
