Ogun PDP suspends Daniel, 12 others

The Peoples Democratic Party in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun  State  has suspended  former Governor Gbenga Daniel for alleged romance with the Labour Party in the state.

Twelve other members of the PDP in the area – Idowu Osho,   Gbenga Sadiku,   Yetunde Majolagbe,  Mabawonju Shitta,  Ayantola Lawal,   Raufu Jinad, . Oguntade Adeleke,   Gbenga Buhari, Yinka Sotunde,   Gbenga Sokoya, Zainab Lawal and  Olu Osho- were also suspended   for the same   offence termed “anti-party activities.”

The Chairman of the PDP in Ogun East Senatorial District, Chief Doyin Fakoya,  announced this in Isara, Remo North Local Government Area, shortly after a meeting of party members in the area.

Fakoya stressed that the party in the former governor’s Ward 12 decided to effect his suspension in order to restore discipline to the party.

“As of today(Thursday), I am the  Chairman  of the PDP in  Ogun East Senatorial District. I have got a copy of the letter that Otunba  Daniel has  been suspended. He was suspended by ward 12 Sagamu constituency 2,” he said.

Fakoya, who was flanked by the party’s  chairmen  in Sagamu, Ikenne  and Remo-North LGAs,   said  a disciplinary committee set up to look into the allegations  against Daniel  and the 12  others found them guilty.

He said, “Otunba  Daniel was the one that brought the Peoples Party of Nigeria   to Ogun State; he is financing Labour Party at the moment. You cannot be  in two parties at the same time;  you cannot be  in PPN, PDP  and  LP   at the same time.

“Otunba   Daniel is  like any other citizen that jumps   into any political party;  he was fortunate that he governed Ogun State for eight years. Is that  the reason for  him to be  in three political parties at the same time?

“Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the national chairman of our part, the PDP.  said we should put discipline back into the party and his (Daniel) ward said   it has suspended him from  the party. So be it, he is not God, he has been suspended  by ward 12 Sagamu constituency 2. I have got the copy of the letter, I have sent a copy of the letter to the state secretariat  of the PDP and  I have sent one to the press.”

Meanwhile, the party has released the  report of the  eight-man disciplinary committee led  by  Gbenga Salako.

The report dated June 3, 2013, contained the suspension  of the  ex-governor and  the 12 others accused of not attending the party’s meeting at the ward level for a long period of time.

The report, obtained by our correspondent, also accused Daniel and the others   of defecting  to the PPN  before the 2011 general elections.
