Bayo Olupohunda: Open letter to Buhari and Tinubu

The starting point will be to engage Nigerians in a continuous debate about your manifesto. They want to see the APC’s road map for the future. They are waiting to be convinced. Dear Sirs, I hope this letter meets you in a good, patriotic spirit. Let me first use this opportunity to join other Nigerians in congratulating the opposition on the registration of the long-awaited alternative party, the All Progressives Congress. Its registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission was a significant moment for Nigerians. It, hopefully, signals a new dawn considering that for once, a truly national opposition platform which has been elusive in the Fourth Republic, appears to have emerged to challenge the ruling party in 2015 and beyond. In many ways too, the merger of the once disparate opposition parties under a unifying bloc represents a milestone in the quest for the enthronement of genuine democracy. That the union has come at a time when this democracy is under imminen

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo Iweala indicated this in her speech at the opening of a two-day meeting of Commissioners of Finance and Accountants Generals of states ministries of Finance in Minna. Super Eagles soar over Bafana

Nigeria strengthened their credentials as the best team on the African continent when they defeated South Africa 2-0 in the Nelson Mandela Challenge at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Substitute Uche Nwafor netted a brace as the Super eagles proved to be more clinical in front of goal, while Bafana were unable to convert their chances. The visitors unlocked the Bafana Bafana defence in the 11th minute with a long ball that almost fell for Nnamdi Oduamadi, but Itumeleng Khune came out of his line to make a brave interception before gathering the ball. Three minutes later it was the hosts who threatened with long range efforts at the other end but Reneilwe Letsholonyane saw his shot blocked on the edge of the box before Tshepo Masilela fired wide moments later. Gordon Igesund’s side had a much better chance to take the lead in the 24th minute when Bernard Parker broke through on the right before delivering a low ball across the goalmouth, but Siphiwe Tshabalala arrived late at the f

Solar-Powered Ubuntu Laptop Boasts 10h Battery Life

Solar-powered laptops are understandably more difficult to build in an efficient and cost-effective manner, but it seems a Canadian company called WeWi Telecommunications, Inc. has found a solution. WeWi has unveiled an  Ubuntu laptop  that can be powered solely by solar energy and boasts an impressive 10 hour battery life. And the whole package costs only $350. A $400 waterproof version is also available. Dubbed SOL, the Ubuntu powered laptop sports a rugged look that makes you think it would survive a 10-foot drop. It probably wouldn’t but its look matches its purpose: that of being used in developing nations with a lot of sun and limited access to electricity or by adventurers who are traveling around the globe. Available in different colors including black, red, gray, bright green, the  solar-powered laptop  is provided with a detachable solar panel that developers say can provide enough batter juice to keep the device running for 10 hours after being kept as little as 2

The theme of the meeting is: “Restructuring Nigeria’s Finances.” She said, “At present ASUU wants the government to pay N92 billion in extra allowances when resources are not there and when

Moyes has so far been frustrated in his bid to lure Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Old Trafford while there has also been speculation linking him with moves for Luka Modric and Marouane Fellaini. Fellaini missed Everton’s final pre-season friendly against Real Betis on Sunday with what manager Roberto Martinez described as an ‘infected cut’. Sevilla star Kondogbia, who can play in midfield or at centre half, would represent a cheaper option with the 20-year-old available for between 15m and 20m euros. Kondogbia was linked with Real Madrid earlier in the summer, although that interest cooled after they signed Real Sociedad midfielder Asie

Ogun PDP, APC, LP bicker over 2015 polls

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun A chief of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Mr. Buruji Kashamu, has said the newly-registered All Progressives Congress and the emerging Labour Party in Ogun will not pose any threat to the electoral fortunes of the party in the state come 2015 elections. Kashamu said this on Sunday evening at a rally in Ado-Odo/Ota during which 500 members of the new APC and LP defected to the PDP. He alleged that while the people of Ogun State had continued to show disaffection with the style of the Action Congress of Nigeria-led government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the emerging LP had been burdened by the image of its promoters, whom he said become politically irrelevant. The ACN is one of the political parties that merged to form the APC. He said, “In 2011, the fight within the PDP and the fact that the people wanted a change, combined to deny the PDP of victory. Now, our people have tasted the change and it is bitter. “The tru
