Jose Mourinho 'will target Champions League glory at Chelsea'

Former Chelsea midfielder Alexei Smertin says Jose Mourinho has returned to Stamford Bridge to win the Champions League which eluded him during his first spell in charge of the Blues. Mourinho led Chelsea to the Premier League title twice from 2004-07 as well as two League Cups and one FA Cup. The 50-year-old, who won the Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, is back at Chelsea on a four-year deal. "His target will be to win this trophy," Smertin told BBC Radio 5 live. It will be tougher for Mourinho this time. Manchester United are hugely strong, even with David Moyes coming in as he will have a few quid to spend on an already fearsome squad, while Manchester City will be stronger again. Even winning the domestic title will be tough, but he will not worry about that - he will back his own ability. Mourinho twice steered Chelsea to the Champions League semi-finals during his first stint in charge, only to lose to Liverpool on both occasions in 2005 an...

Why AT&T And Verizon May Start Charging You More Fees

Don't be surprised if you start seeing more and more fees on your wireless bill. That's one of the takeaways from a new report of the U.S. mobile market, according to Tero Kuittinen, a mobile analyst and vice president at Alekstra, a firm that works to reduce companies' phone bills. Because fewer new customers are signing up for wireless plans, giants like AT&T and Verizon are looking everywhere they can for additional revenue, which means charging their existing subscribers more, Kuittinen wrote on BGR . Only 1.1 million new wireless accounts were created the first three months of 2013 , according to the report from Chetan Sharma Consulting, a firm that specializes in mobile trends and strategy. This represents a whopping 60 percent decline over the number of new connections in the same quarter of 2012. That's a huge problem for the wireless industry, which thrived in previous years as new customers signed up for mobile subscriptions. In the year 2000, ...

Xbox One's Radical Changes Might Not Really Be A Victory For Gamers

Many gamers were overjoyed on Wednesday when Microsoft announced it would remove the most controversial restrictions for the Xbox One after much backlash. No longer would Xbox One owners need to connect their consoles to the Internet once a day or face byzantine restrictions on selling used games when they buy the systems in November. While the stunning change of heart showed the power of public pressure, the death of these features to quell angry gamers has brought out another set of critics. It's clear that Microsoft had envisioned a future of gaming that was really, truly always connected -- though some of their assumptions may have been a bit ambitious. The original page on the Xbox site regarding connecting online made the dubious assumption that "every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection." But Microsoft's original plan would have allowed digital games to be shared with 10 friends and family, with others being able to log in and play the titles. Th...

Rita Ora recently told Marie Claire U.K. Blue Ivy probably has more clothes than both her parents. "I’d definitely want to raid Blue Ivy’s wardrobe more than Beyoncé’s," she said. "It is probably ... bigger than both of their wardrobes put together. That’s the wardrobe I wanna be in!" Bey and Jay's little angel has been seen out and about with her famous mama recently. Apple 1 Up For Auction, First Apple Computer Could Fetch Over $500,000

It's the kind of electronic junk that piles up in basements and garages — an old computer motherboard with wires sticking out. But because it was designed by two college dropouts named Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, it could be worth more than half a million dollars (€375,000). An Apple 1 from 1976, one of the first Apple computers ever built and forerunner of today's MacBooks, IPads and IPhones, goes on the auction block at Christie's next week. The bidding starts at $300,000 (€227,000). "This is a piece of history that made a difference in the world; it's where the computer revolution started," said Ted Perry, a retired school psychologist who owns the old Apple and has kept it stashed away in a cardboard box at his home outside Sacramento, California. The green piece of plastic covered with a copper-colored labyrinth of memory chips was one of the first 25 such computer elements, and sold for $666.66. About 200 were made but most have disappeare...

Sacking of PDP NWC Members: The agony of self-inflicted pain

The story of how the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, continues to act against its own rules and the price it is paying The fate of those who would come after me would be worse than what the party is putting me through”.  That was the curse placed on the Office of the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.  It was Barnabas Gemade who placed it. In 2001, after the shambles that attended the party’s move to dump Gemade as Chairman, the latter wanted a competitive election.  Gemade sought to engender an electoral process that would produce the new Chairman.  He wanted to re-contest, having failed to benefit from the additional one-year for the tenure of members of the PDP National Executive Committee, NEC.  And because the maximum party leader of the time, President Matthew Okikiolakan Aremu Olusegun Obasanjo, no longer wanted to suffer Gemade, the latter “just had to go”. For the PDP, it sometimes obeys its own rules in the breach. It was in bitterness that Ge...

Instagram Video Takes Selfies To New Extremes

In a blog post published Thursday , Instagram introduced the app's new video-sharing feature by showcasing four short cinematic clips people had shared with its service. There was a video of Kobe Bryant walking through a doctor's office on crutches; another of babies gurgling on a blanket; a whimsical one of an amusement park ride above the mountains of Hong Kong; and a video of a latte being made in a Santa Cruz café. Once the new service went live to Instagram users, however, the videos rushing in were of a decidedly different sort: Every few seconds brought a new clip of people speaking into their smartphones, extended at arm's length, with expressions of disbelief, horror, surprise, confusion and excitement. There were stop-action videos of people smiling and sticking their tongues out. One girl filmed herself lip-syncing to Miley Cyrus. "This is awkward!" another teen squealed. It marked a major moment not only for Instagram -- which had just anno...

I’m happy they are showing improvement,” Omokaro, nicknamed 10-10 during the 1990 Africa Nations Cup in Algeria, said Also contributing, Harrison Okagbue, a former coach of Uganda, said the Eagles were not left a slim chance to qualify and that Keshi should work on their mind set. “Right now, we are in a tight corner. Obi presents N100m to the army

Satisfied with the level of work carried out by army engineers in the reconstruction of internal roads within the Barracks at Onitsha, Governor Peter Obi Friday presented another cheque of N100 Million Naira to the Army, bringing it to N200 million given to them so far for the project. Presenting the cheque, the Governor said that it was in line with the policy of his Government to work with all the Federal agencies in the State on the reason that all of them ultimately serve the good of the State and her people. He regretted that before he became Governor, it was  a cat and mouse relationship between Anambra Government and Security agencies in the State and that the State suffered because of that. “If you remember, in that reckless era, the State was burnt down. But I can assure you that with the level of civility we have restored, such a thing would not happen again, the Governor said. He also urged the army to continue to utilize the funds properly. He said that Government...

Video On Instagram: Facebook Adds 15-Second Videos To Photo-Sharing App

Video, meet Instagram. Facebook on Thursday announced that it had added video recording, editing, filtering and sharing capabilities to Instagram, the immensely popular photo sharing service Facebook bought last year for $1 billion. "We need to do to video what we did to photos," said Kevin Systrom, the co-founder and CEO of Instagram. "What we've done is made Instagram better." The app allows Instagram's 130 million monthly active users to record 15-second collages of video clips. Users can delete and re-record clips, and the app features Cinema, a video stabilization tool. Like photos that are shared on the app, videos on Instagram will have 13 custom filters. If any of this sounds familiar, it's because Facebook is taking a page right from Twitter's book. In January, Twitter released Vine , an app that records (and then plays on a loop) 6-second video clips. For Twitter, Vine has been nothing short of a huge succe...
