If certified and the partners produce the first barrel of oil, Lagos will

Why Nigeria must celebrate Keshi – Amaju

Amaju was reacting to the remarks of sports promoter, Martin Osaile who said that Keshi had reached his limit and might not offer Nigeria more than he did at the last Nations Cup in South Africa where Nigeria won the cup 19 years after they did so in Tunisia. Amaju said the following: Coach Stephen Keshi has “It is fundamentally wrong to assume that Keshi has reached his limit. Keshi should not be condemned but celebrated. He has been on duty for only two years and within this period we won the Nations Cup, something we were doing under an indigenous coach for the first time. Everybody is celebrating Alex Ferguson for the feat he achieved with Manchester United. But how many years did he work before he won his first trophy?  Martin Osaile wants Osaze back to the Eagles. I don’t have anything against that. But we won the Nations Cup without Osaze. We all know that Osaze has a history of clashes with coaches. He had problems with Amodu, Lagerback, Siasia and now Keshi. Indiscip

Edo Hanging Row

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan on Fathers’ Day, June 16, had a unique message for Governors – sign the death warrants of those on death row. Eight days after Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State approved execution of four death row convicts; his intention preceded the President’s message. Oshiomhole’s action sparked off outrage from the human rights community, particularly Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, which had campaigned against the hangings. They view execution of condemned felons as “barbaric” and a violation of human dignity. The concerns could be consigned to meddlesomeness, knowing that their non-barbaric countries, still execute some classes of criminals. There are areas of human rights that should bother these organisations. Did the suspects have access to fair trials? What is the penalty for their offences? We think their interventions at such levels could make a difference to the suspects’ cases. Noise about death sentences, abolished in some countries,

A Homeless Man and His BlackBerry

You could tell he was different the moment he walked in the coffee shop. It wasn't his appearance. He looked presentable, if a little rough around the edges, clutching an old BlackBerry to his barrel chest. It was how he moved: warily, shoulders hunched over and eyes darting. The body language would read as suspicious, if not for the flicker of fear and apprehension in his eyes — as if he was scared of being noticed, vigilant to his surroundings and desperately trying to blend in at the same time. He ordered a coffee, carefully counting out coins on the counter. He sat down at the table near me and pulled out his phone, just like nearly everyone else at the shop. He punched in a few numbers and began talking in a low voice, discreet but urgent. I was only a few seats away, but I couldn't help but overhear his conversations. Did someone have some cash jobs for him? Could he crash at a friend of a friend's place? Could he get a ride out to the soup kitchen? After a few

15 Reasons We Need Spell Check IRL

Of all the modern luxuries we have today, spell check is one that we value most. Seriously, what would we do without those squiggly red lines underneath our slip-ups and typos? How else would we find out that we incorrectly spelled "spaghetti?" What would tell us that we left out a letter in "accidentally?" For all the beautiful things spell check has done to our word processing experience, it's too bad that function hasn't yet extended to real life. There are plenty of reasons — too many reasons — that it is seriously needed. 1. Because tattoos are permanent. Image courtesy of Imgur, TheDeathlyHallow 2. Because one day this will haunt you on the Internet. Image courtesy of Imgur, fink 3. Because spelling names is really hard. Image courtesy of Imgur, suckitbetch 4. 7 Big Changes Coming in Internet Explorer 11

Microsoft thinks very highly of its homegrown web browser, Internet Explorer . IE has been intertwined with Windows itself for over a decade, and when Microsoft debuted Windows 8 last year, it also released a new version of the browser, Internet Explorer 10 , that was created specifically for the full-screen, touch-first experience that Windows 8 emphasizes. By its nature, IE10 was a big change, but it also had some strange limitations. Web content took up the whole screen unless you right-clicked — only then did you see your tabs or the URL bar. You couldn’t manage Favorites. You could only have 10 tabs open at once. To make the transition bearable, Microsoft kept a version of IE10 in the traditional desktop environment, although the same engine powers both.
