The need to install Windows 8 from a USB device, like a flash drive, is a common one due to the fact that many computers, especially tablets and smaller laptops and desktops, no longer have optical drives. In other words, that Windows 8 install disc doesn't do you much good if you don't have anywhere to put the DVD! If you want to install Windows 8 from a USB device, you'll need to get those setup files onto a USB device. Unfortunately, simply copying them there won't do. Windows 8 is also sold as a downloadable ISO file which, if you choose to buy Windows 8 that way, requires some steps to get it properly copied to a flash drive as well. Regardless of whether you have a Windows 8 DVD you need to get on a flash drive, or a Windows 8 ISO file with the same goal, the following tutorial will help you get the Windows 8 installation files properly copied to a flash drive so you can get on with the installation process. Note: The following procedure applies equally t...

Customize Your Windows 8 Installation Disc and Slipstream Updates With WinReducer

Windows installation disc-customizing tools are always useful. They allow you to add Windows updates to your installation media, streamline the installation process by filling in your product key and other information, and customize Windows’ default settings. We previously covered RT Se7en Lite for Windows 7 , and WinReducer works similarly for Windows 8. Both tools work similarly to the nLite tool for Windows XP — WinReducer is like an nLite for Windows 8. Setup First, download WinReducer 8 . This software is technically in beta at the moment because of how new Windows 8 is, but it worked fine for us. That said, WinReducer includes a warning that it shouldn’t yet be used for production purposes. It’s okay to experiment with it on your own, but don’t use it to customize an entire organization’s mission-critical Windows 8 installer discs just yet. Launch WinReducer after extracting it and you’ll immediately see an error message. The message tells you you’ll have to man...

Autopsey Reveals Two N.B. Boys Died of Asphyxiation

The RCMP say preliminary results from autopsies performed on two boys who were killed by an African rock python in Campbellton, N.B., show they died from asphyxiation. This comes only hours before a vigil is held for Noah and Connor Barthe, aged four-and-a-half and six. The boys were found dead Monday in an apartment above Reptile Ocean, an exotic pet store in Campbellton, N.B. Police said the 45-kilogram (100-pound), 4.3-metre African rock python escaped its enclosure at the pet store, slithered through a ventilation system above and fell through a ceiling into the living room where they slept. Meanwhile a reptile expert said the python may have been lured by the scent of the children because they had been playing with farm animals hours earlier. RCMP say the snake has been euthanized. The Canadian Press is reporting a reptile expert from Ontario is heading to New Brunswick to help remove animals from the exotic pet store holding the python. The team from Indian River Re...

Ogun PDP, APC, LP bicker over 2015 polls

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun A chief of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Mr. Buruji Kashamu, has said the newly-registered All Progressives Congress and the emerging Labour Party in Ogun will not pose any threat to the electoral fortunes of the party in the state come 2015 elections. Kashamu said this on Sunday evening at a rally in Ado-Odo/Ota during which 500 members of the new APC and LP defected to the PDP. He alleged that while the people of Ogun State had continued to show disaffection with the style of the Action Congress of Nigeria-led government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the emerging LP had been burdened by the image of its promoters, whom he said become politically irrelevant. The ACN is one of the political parties that merged to form the APC. He said, “In 2011, the fight within the PDP and the fact that the people wanted a change, combined to deny the PDP of victory. Now, our people have tasted the change and it is bitter. “The tru...

First ever lab-grown burger cooked and tested

The world’s first lab-grown burger has been cooked and eaten at a news conference in London. Scientists took cells from a cow and turned them into strips of muscle, which were then combined and made into a patty. English chef, Richard McGowan, was given the task of preparing the burger for food critics Hanni Ruetzler and Josh Schonwald, who, overall, gave a positive response. Researchers said the technology could help with meeting the growing demand for meat worldwide. “I think most people just don’t realise that the current meat production is at its maximum and is not going to supply sufficient meat for the growing demand in the next 40 years, so we need to come up with an alternative, there’s no question. And this can be an ethical and environmentally friendly way to produce meat,” the scientist behind the burger, Professor Mark Post, from Maastricht University explained. He and his team are using similar techniques to researchers involved in growing human tissue fr...

Business Week Remember a little thing called Apple Maps, Apple's so-called 'Google Maps-killer'? Yeah, turns out a lot of other people don't either. Google Maps is not just king of the map apps, but of all apps: according to new data from GlobalWebIndex , Google Maps beats out Facebook, YouTube, Google+, Twitter, Skype and Instagram as the most frequently used app for the second quarter of 2013. Facebook currently brings in 44 percent of users, YouTube at 35 percent, and Google+ with 30 percent of smartphone users. Apple Maps didn't even crack the top 10 (to be fair, it's not available for Android users), but you can expect someone over at Apple being pretty ticked off at the news that Google Maps is doing so well. Get Google Maps for iOS here , and Android users here . Chances are you already have it.

BlackBerry's venerable messaging platform to hit Samsung's devices. Would a cross-platform version of BlackBerry Messenger benefit RIM? (Credit: BlackBerry.com) It seems like it was ages ago when BlackBerry dropped the news that BBM would find a home on Android handsets. Apparently the wait is about to end, at least for owners of Samsung Galaxy phones. A new report from the folks at N4BB claims that Samsung has officially committed to the messaging app. Specifically, BBM addicts will be able to download BlackBerry Messenger software via the Google Play store "soon." With BBM, Galaxy users will have access to their BBM accounts, including BBM chats and BBM Groups. It also appears that BBM functionality will be integrated in Samsung devices through a Samsung messaging hub. Whether this means Sammy customers will be treated to a UI similar to the BlackBerry Hub, basically a unified inbox on steroids, remains to be seen. Frankly it's one the best feature...

Drogba returns to haunt Arsenal as Galatasaray win Emirates Cup

Didier Drogba came off the bench to grab a brace, as Galatasaray defeated Arsenal 2-1 to win the 2013 Emirates Cup. Both teams came into the game, knowing that a win will hand them the trophy, after Porto defeated Napoli in the first match played today. It was the Gunners who started the game brightly, but failed to convert their chances. However, shortly before half time, Theo Walcott’s curling effort crept pass Muslera. However in the second half, the inroduction of Drogba and Sneijder breathed new life into Gala’s attack, as the pair combined well several times. The referee adjudged that Miguel had shoved the Ivorian striker in the back, as he tried to control Sneijder’s pass and pointed to the spot. The former Chelsea frontman, who had a remarkable scoring record against Arsenal during his time in England, stepped up and sent Szecensy the wrong way. With the game heading for a draw, Drogba once again controlled Sneijder’s pass in the area sweetly and slammed in the winner...

We have seen lots of people speak about a player that is not theirs and we are due some respect. “These rumours of an imminent transfer are not true. The only thing we have communicated with Real Madrid is that he is our player and he is not for sale. “Gareth is a guy I really like. We are ta...
